Located in northwest Iran, the Bostanabad-Tabriz railway is the second phase of the broader Mianeh-Tabriz railway project and has a length of 44 kilometers.
The first train also officially departed the Khavaran station toward Tehran on Friday morning, three days after train tickets were sold out.
The 205-kilometer Mianeh-Bostanabad-Tabriz railway project was launched 23 years ago.
It has 9 stations in 11 sections, 11 tunnels with a length of 6,583 meters, and 47 large bridges with a length of 7,623 meters.
The double-track railway is a major part of the country’s East-West transport corridor and is expected to increase the share of Iran in international transport.
